February, 2013 - on February 18-22 2013 we welcomed Dr. Michel Lafon from CNRS Paris and Centre for Research in the Politics of Language University of Pretoria. On February 21st Dr. Lafon presented a lecture “African languages in South African education: the unassailable legacy of ‘Bantu Education’” as a part of International Mother Language Day celebration.

more »November, 2006 - A golden jubilee of academic work was celebrated in honour of Professor Joanna Mantel-Niećko on the 23rd November in Kazimierzowski Palace on the University Campus. Speeches were given by: Professor Wojciech Tygielski, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, Professor Jolanta Sierakowska-Dyndo, Director of the Oriental Institute, Professor Stanisław Piłaszewicz, Head of the Department of African Languages and Cultures, and Mr. Mersha Woldu, President of Ethiopian-Polish Association Selam. Congratulation letters were read by Dr. Seifu Gebru from Adam Mickiewicz University (on behalf of Ethiopian-Polish Association Selam) and by Dr. Taddese Haile (on behalf of Ethiopian Ambassador in Berlin). Professor Witold Witakowski from Uppsala University presented Professor Mantel-Niećko with a Jubilee Festschrift Book. Professor Mantel-Niećko gave a short lecture on the Ethiopian Studies and their role in the globalized system of education. Traditional Ethiopian music accompanied the toasts and congratulations.
